Disk Subvolume Names
$volume
is the name of a disk volume. It begins with a $ character, followed by 1 through 7
alphanumeric characters. The first character after $ must be alphabetic. If a node
name is not given, the default is the name set by the VOLUME command.
subvolume
is the name of a subdivision of a disk volume. It is 1 through 8 alphanumeric
characters long. The first character must be alphabetic. If a subvolume name is not
given, the default is the name set by the VOLUME command. (Although D-series
system software does not support a default for a subvolume name, MEDIACOM
does.)
file-id
is the name of a disk file residing within a subvolume. It is 1 through 8
alphanumeric characters long. The first character must be alphabetic.
Examples
\SYS1.$VOL45.PAYROLL.MASTER
\NET3.MYFILE
$ACCTS.ACTIVE.PAYABLES
EMPNAMES
The last three examples show partial disk file names. Assuming the default names for
node, volume, and subvolume in a session are \NET2, $ACCTS, and ACTIVE,
MEDIACOM expands those names to:
\NET3.$ACCTS.ACTIVE.MYFILE
\NET2.$ACCTS.ACTIVE.PAYABLES
\NET2.$ACCTS.ACTIVE.EMPNAMES
