Tape Names
When you use Group A characters in a tape name, the name does not have to be
enclosed by quotation marks in command syntax. However, be aware of two
special cases:
Using a double quotation mark as the first or last character of a name
Using an asterisk or question mark as any character in a name
If a double quotation mark is the first or last character of a name, enclose the entire
name in double quotation marks. Enter the double quotation mark that is part of the
name (found at the beginning or end of the name) as two double quotation marks.
For example, consider the name:
"T60
To specify it in commands:
"""T60"
When using an asterisk or question mark as part of a tape name, you must
precede each asterisk or question mark with a circumflex. In a command that
accepts wild-card characters, the circumflex indicates that these characters are
part of the name rather than wild-card characters. For example, consider these
names:
T*92*
92WW?
To specify them in commands:
T^*92^*
92WW^?
Because the circumflex is used to distinguish the asterisk and question mark as
part of the name, you must include the circumflex when specifying tape-name or
new-tape-name with ALTER, DELETE, or INFO commands.
Do not precede an asterisk or question mark with a circumflex in commands that
do not support wild-card characters.
Group B special characters:
