Managing Tape Mounts
Table 2-2 lists the commands that control various aspects of tape mount requests and
tape console devices. They are frequently used on a daily basis to handle tape
requests.
Managing Tape File Entries
Usually, catalog entries for tape files are created, maintained, and deleted by the
DSM/TC system. However, sometimes you need to manually add, change, or delete a
tape file entry. Use the commands in Table 2-3 for these occasional operations.
You might frequently use the command INFO TAPEFILE, which displays or prints out
catalog information for tape file entries.
Table 2-2. Tape Mount Commands
Command Purpose
*ACCEPT TAPEMOUNT Permits use of a tape drive for no label processing or bypass
label processing
*ALTER CONSOLE Designates a device as the tape console
*ALTER TAPEMOUNT Requests a different labeled tape to be mounted than the one
currently being requested
INFO CONSOLE Retrieves the device name of the tape console
*REJECT TAPEMOUNT Cancels a request to use a tape drive or tape
STATUS TAPEMOUNT Retrieves information about the outstanding tape mount
requests on a node
* Only a super-group user can execute this command.

Command Purpose
*ADD TAPEFILE Catalogs an existing tape file
**ALTER TAPEFILE Changes the retention period or expiration date of a tape file entry.
Also changes the status of a tape file entry that represents a file in
a multifile tape set.
**DELETE TAPEFILE Removes an unexpired tape file entry
*EXPIRE TAPEFILE Runs the clean-up process to remove expired entries permanently
INFO TAPEFILE Retrieves information about a tape file entry
* Only a super-group user can execute this command.
** If configured, only SECURITY-MEDIA-ADMIN group users can execute this command. If not, only Super
group users can execute this command.
