Configuring DSM/TC
Use the commands in Table 2-8 mainly when configuring a DSM/TC system for the first
time. From time to time you might also need them to change some aspect of your
configuration.
TAPECOM Equivalent Commands
If you are accustomed to using TAPECOM to manage your tapes and tape processing,
you can use MEDIACOM to perform the same operations as the TAPECOM
commands, rather than switch back and forth between the two subsystems.
Table 2-9
lists the TAPECOM commands and their MEDIACOM command equivalents.
If you are in a MEDIACOM session and cannot remember the TAPECOM equivalent
command, enter HELP and the name of the TAPECOM command.

Command Purpose
*ALTER FILECAT Changes the operating system security level or owner of a file
catalog
*ALTER MEDIADB Modifies existing volume and file catalogs to support creation of
multi-tapefile BACKUP volume sets (append)
**ALTER MEDIADEFS Sets or changes the system default values
*ALTER VOLCAT Changes the operating system security level or owner of a volume
catalog
*ALTER POOL Changes one or more attributes of an existing pool
*CREATE FILECAT Creates a file catalog and assigns it a logical name, owner, and
operating system security level
*CREATE VOLCAT Creates a volume catalog and assigns it a logical name, owner,
and operating system security level
*DROP FILECAT Removes a file catalog once it is empty
*DROP VOLCAT Removes a volume catalog once it is empty
INFO FILECAT Retrieves the logical name, physical name, owner, and security
level of a file catalog
INFO VOLCAT Retrieves the logical name, physical name, owner, and security
level of a volume catalog
INFO MEDIADEFS Retrieves information about the DSM/TC environment
* Only a super-group user can execute this command.
** If configured, only SECURITY-MEDIA-ADMIN group users can execute this command. If not, only Super
group users can execute this command.
Note. MEDIACOM recognizes the syntax for TAPECOM commands ACCEPT, MOUNTS,
REJECT, and STATUS. In a MEDIACOM session, you can use these commands in or their
MEDIACOM equivalents, whichever you prefer.
