ADD TAPEFILE Command (Super Group Only)
ADD TAPEFILE Command (Super Group Only)
ADD TAPEFILE manually catalogs a tape file from a tape created by BACKUP,
BACKCOPY, or other processes. The tape must belong to a pool and volume catalog
before you execute ADD TAPEFILE. If it does not, add it to a pool with ADD
TAPEVOLUME, specifying the tape’s status as scratch.
ADD TAPEFILE changes the tape’s status to assigned in the volume catalog as it
catalogs the tape file in the file catalog.
The most common situations to use ADD TAPEFILE are:
To re-create a tape file entry that expired or was accidentally deleted with DELETE
TAPEFILE
To catalog a tape file from a tape created at a different site
To catalog existing tape files when converting your site to DSM/TC
You can re-create a deleted entry in any file catalog, volume catalog, and pool you like.
However, to restore the entry exactly as it was in the catalog, you must know the
original file catalog name, volume catalog name, and pool name. This information is
retrieved by an INFO TAPEFILE command using the DETAIL option. (Run INFO
TAPEFILE with the DETAIL option periodically and save the output. Once a tape file
entry is gone, the information needed to catalog it in the original location is gone.)
When cataloging a tape file written on two or more tapes, you must know which order
the tapes were used to properly add that information to the tape file entries. In this
case, ADD TAPEFILE is executed as many times as there are tapes for the file.
tape-file-id
is the name of the tape file to catalog. When given, tape-file-id must be the
first parameter of the ADD TAPEFILE command, and it must match the file name in
Note. ADD TAPEFILE catalogs only the first file of a tape set. (In most cases, the first file is
the only file on a tape set.) The command cannot catalog any file past the first file of a multifile
tape set. If you need to restore a deleted or expired entry that represents a file in a multifile
tape set, use the ALTER TAPEFILE command.
