ALTER MEDIADEFS Command (Super Group or
SECURITY-MEDIA-ADMIN Only)
PERMANENT
keeps the entry until it is erased with DELETE TAPEFILE. A permanent entry
can subsequently be given an expiration date with ALTER TAPEFILE, in which
case it remains in the catalog until it expires.
RESET ABENDRETENTION
changes the current ABENDRETENTION value to 1.
AUTOMATED { ON | OFF }
determines how many times an attempt is made to automatically select and mount
from DSM/TC or TMF, a scratch tape on an ACS tape drive. This option’s value is
used when the AUTOMATED attribute is not used in a TAPECATALOG DEFINE.
For more information on this option, see Considerations on page 2-44.
ON
$ZSVR requests DSM/TC a total of ten times to select an ACS scratch tape to
satisfy a mount message.
OFF
$ZSVR requests DSM/TC only one time to select an ACS scratch tape to
satisfy a mount message. The default is OFF.
RESET AUTOMATED
changes the current AUTOMATED value to OFF.
COMPRESSION { IDRC | ON | OFF }
determines whether compression is used when writing data to a tape. This option’s
value is used when the COMPRESSION attribute is not used in a TAPECATALOG
DEFINE.
IDRC
uses compression when writing the data.
ON
uses compression when writing the data.
OFF
does not use compression when writing the data. The default is OFF.
Note. Compression is sometimes used even when you specify COMPRESSION OFF.
For example, writing compressed data on tape is the only mode of the 5194 tape
drive, which means the tape drive compresses data whenever possible.
