SECURITY-MEDIA-ADMIN Only)
the chances of finding a tape in the tape library to satisfy a mount request for a
scratch tape.
With AUTOMATED ON, $ZSVR automatically requests DSM/TC to select another
scratch tape from the pool named in the DEFINE if the first one selected is
unavailable in the tape library. If the second tape is unavailable, $ZSVR makes
another request of DSM/TC. This cycle can repeat up to nine times after the initial
request.
If a scratch tape is not found in the tape library after ten tries, $ZSVR sends a
message to the tape console. The operator has four choices:
1. Satisfy the mount message by finding a scratch cartridge tape to manually
store in the library with an ACS ENTER command and mount the tape on an
tape library drive with an ACS MOUNT command.
2. Use REJECT TAPEMOUNT to cancel the mount message.
3. Mount the tape on a tape drive that is not a tape library.
4. Use the ALTER TAPEMOUNT command to start the cycle again.
With AUTOMATED OFF, only one request is made of DSM/TC to select a scratch
tape. If the selected tape is not available, a message is sent to the tape console as
described previously. For more information on using an ACS, see the configuration
guidelines for the Tape Library Control Path in the DSM/Tape Catalog User’s
Guide.
