ALTER MEDIADEFS Command (Super Group or
SECURITY-MEDIA-ADMIN Only)
UNLABELED Unlabeled tape processing only is permitted. No DEFINEs can
be used. If DEFINEs are used, you receive this error message:
113 DEFINE class or attributes are not
valid for the attempted function
NOCATALOG Unlabeled and labeled tape processing is permitted. Only TAPE
DEFINEs or TAPECATALOG DEFINEs with the CATALOG
attribute set to OFF are recognized. No cataloging takes place
even if DSM/TC is installed. If a TAPECATALOG DEFINE is used
with CATALOG set to ON, you receive this error message:
099 attempt to use microcode option that is not
installed
COMPATIBLE Unlabeled and labeled tape processing is permitted. TAPE and
TAPECATALOG DEFINEs are recognized. At this level, DSM/TC
is used at your discretion with a TAPECATALOG DEFINE,
CATALOG ON. To bypass the catalog, use a TAPE DEFINE or
TAPECATALOG DEFINE, CATALOG OFF.
Use this level only when your site is converting to DSM/TC
because it does not provide the security of the highest tape level
(MEDIACAT). Once the conversion is complete, execute ALTER
MEDIADEFS with the LEVEL MEDIACAT option.
MEDIACAT Labeled tape processing is permitted, but only TAPECATALOG
DEFINE, CATALOG ON is recognized. A third-party tape
management system can be running but will not impede on
labeled tape processing if it is not. All requests for a tape go
through DSM/TC. If the catalog is unavailable, requests are
denied until the catalog is available. If you try to use a TAPE
DEFINE or use no DEFINE at all, you receive this error
message:
113 DEFINE class or attributes are not valid for
the attempted function
INTEGRATED Labeled tape processing is allowed only if the third-party tape
management system is running. At this level, the third-party tape
management system is used in parallel with DSM/TC.
TAPECATALOG DEFINEs with CATALOG ON are the only
DEFINEs that work for tape processing at this level.
TPTMCOMPATIBLE Unlabeled and labeled tape processing is permitted. TAPE and
TAPECATALOG DEFINEs are recognized. Cataloged tapes can
be read but not written when the CATALOG attribute is OFF.
DSM/TC is not consulted. Changes to the support levels cannot
be changed if any tape requests are outstanding or if any tape
drives are currently in use.
