ALTER TAPEFILE Command (Super Group or
SECURITY-MEDIA-ADMIN Only)
ALTER TAPEFILE Command (Super Group or
SECURITY-MEDIA-ADMIN Only)
Use ALTER TAPEFILE to change these attributes of a tape file entry:
The retention period of any unexpired entry
The expiration date of any unexpired entry
The status of an expired or accidentally deleted entry that represented a file in a
multifile tape set
Changing an entry’s expiration date or retention period is necessary when the tape file
was given the wrong expiration date at the time it was created and cataloged or when
the tape file should be used longer than originally intended.
The STATUS VALID option of ALTER TAPEFILE applies only to an expired entry that
represents a file in a multifile tape set. When such an entry reaches its expiration date
or is manually erased by DELETE TAPEFILE, it is marked invalid.
While this type of invalid tape file entry is no longer usable by DSM/TC, it remains in
the catalog until all the other entries for the files on the tape set expire or are deleted.
(To retrieve information for invalid tape file entries, use the DETAIL option of INFO
TAPEVOLUME.)
If an invalid entry should instead be a usable entry, you can change its status back to
VALID with ALTER TAPEFILE. This must be done while at least one other file from the
tape set has an unexpired entry.
tape-file-id
is the tape file ID of the entry to change. Wild-card characters are permitted in this
name unless the STATUS option is used.
Note. If configured, this command can only be executed by SECURITY-MEDIA-ADMIN group
users. If not, only Super group users can execute this command. For information on
SECURITY-MEDIA-ADMIN group, see the DSM/Tape Catalog User's Guide.
Note. To restore an expired or deleted entry that represents a tape set containing only one file,
use the ADD TAPEFILE command.
