ALTER TAPEMOUNT Command
(Super Group Only)
\node.message-number
is the number assigned by $ZSVR to the mount message of the requested tape.
Use STATUS TAPEMOUNT to find the number you need. Include \node when the
request is not issued from your current default node.
Considerations
Input tape requested for RECOVER DISKFILE
Backup tapes can have:
Alternate copies that are exactly interchangeable tape for tape, referred to as
parallel copies
Copies that are interchangeable tape set for tape set, referred to as series
copies
Neither parallel nor series copies apply to data backed up using Backup and
Restore 2.0 BACKUP.
Cataloged parallel copies have the same physical copy number within a generation
of a tape file name, but cataloged series copies have different physical copy
numbers.
When a request is made for a backup tape set for RECOVER DISKFILE and one
of the tapes is unavailable, you can use ALTER TAPEMOUNT to choose a copy to
replace the unavailable tape. Which type of copy is present makes a difference
when you switch between the tape sets:
If the requested tape set has a parallel copy, at any time one of the tapes
becomes unavailable, use ALTER TAPEMOUNT to determine which tape from
the parallel copy tape set to issue a mount message for. Switching tapes in this
way does not interrupt RECOVER DISKFILE.
If the requested tape set has only a series copy, the ease of switching to the
series copy depends on which tape in the requested tape set is unavailable:
1. If the first tape is unavailable, switching tapes is easy and does not
interrupt RECOVER DISKFILE.
2. If any tape past the first tape is unavailable, switching tapes is more
complicated and interrupts RECOVER DISKFILE.
For the first situation, issue ALTER TAPEMOUNT to switch immediately to the
parallel copy tape set without interrupting the RECOVER DISKFILE.
For the second situation, you must stop and restart RECOVER DISKFILE so
the restore process begins with the first tape of the series copy tape set. In this
