ALTER TAPEMOUNT Command
(Super Group Only)
case, this message displays after ALTER TAPEMOUNT was used to select a
replacement tape:
**ERROR-6310** Only logical copies of the tape file are
available. The request must be restarted from the first
reel to use a logical copy.
To switch to the series copy tape set:
1. Issue REJECT TAPEMOUNT to get rid of the mount message for the
unavailable tape. This action also causes RECOVER DISKFILE to end.
2. Restart RECOVER DISKFILE.
3. Immediately issue ALTER TAPEMOUNT to create a mount message for
the first tape in the series copy tape set.
If no copy of either type is cataloged for the requested backup tape set, a tape
mount request is reissued for the original tape volume.
Input tape requested for TMF
TMF tapes can have:
Alternate copies that are exactly interchangeable, tape for tape, referred to as
parallel copies
Copies that are interchangeable tape set for tape set, referred to as series
copies
When a request is made for a TMF tape set for an online-dump restore or an audit-
dump restore and one of the tapes is unavailable, you can use ALTER
TAPEMOUNT to ask TMF to choose a copy to replace the unavailable tape. Which
type of copy is present makes a difference when you switch between the tape sets:
If the requested TMF tape set has a parallel copy, at any time one of the tapes
becomes unavailable, use ALTER TAPEMOUNT to determine which tape from
the parallel copy tape set to issue a mount message for. This type of tape
switch does not interrupt the TMF restore process.
If the requested TMF tape set only has a series copy, the ease of switching to
the series copy depends on which tape in the requested tape set is
unavailable:
1. If the first tape is unavailable, switching tapes is easy and does not
interrupt the TMF restore operation.
2. If any tape past the first tape is unavailable, switching tapes is more
complicated and interrupts the TMF restore operation.
For the first situation, issue ALTER TAPEMOUNT to switch immediately to the
series copy tape set without interrupting the restore operation.
For the second situation, the TMF restore process must be stopped and
restarted so the restore process begins with the first tape of the series copy
