Tandem EM3270 Manual—110332 B-9
Fujitsu Host to Tandem/IBM Printer Translation
Printer orders contained in the data stream are handled by the IBM 328x printer
emulation as described in Table B-16. In addition, any other unprintable characters are
printed as space characters.
Field Attribute and Extended Field Attribute Translation
Refer to Table B-5 for supported field attributes. Field attributes are handled the same
way as terminal fields. Extended field attributes are ignored, except for Kanji DBCS.
Field outlining attributes are ignored by the EM3270 emulator and do not print.
SCS LU TYPE 1 Printer support
SCS data stream translation (LU type 1) is not available for Kanji host applications.

Table B-16. Translation of Printer Orders
Printer Order EM3270 Emulator Action
New Line (NL) The NL order is executed only if the print operation is
unformatted as indicated in the WCC (bits 2-3 coded 00)
following the Write command. In a formatted printout, the NL
order is replaced by a space character and otherwise ignored.
End of Message (EM) The EM order is executed only if the print operation is
unformatted. In this case, the EM order causes any further data
in the buffer to be ignored. In a formatted printout, the EM order
is replaced by a space character and otherwise ignored.
Form Feed (FF) The FF order causes a skip to the top of form when encountered
in the first print position of a line or after a valid NL or CR
order. The FF order is replaced by a space character prior to
printing. An FF order encountered in any other position is
considered invalid, printed as a “<” character, otherwise ignored.
Carriage Return (CR) When the CR order is encountered during an unformatted
printout, the next print position is the leftmost character position
on the current print line. In a formatted printout, the CR order is
printed as a space character and otherwise ignored.
