EM3270 Manual
Tandem EM3270 Manual—110332 xiii
About This Manual
This manual contains instructions for using the Tandem EM3270 emulator. The EM3270
emulator allows IBM or Fujitsu host and Tandem applications to operate on Tandem
6526, 653x, and TS530 terminals, IBM 3270 terminals, Fujitsu 66xx terminals, and
personal computers that fully emulate Tandem’s terminals. IBM 3270, IBM 5250, and
Fujitsu 66xx data streams are supported.
When connected to an IBM host through a binary synchronous or SNA SDLC interface,
EM3270 modifies the functionality of these terminals to emulate an IBM 3270 or 5250
information display system or a Fujitsu 66xx terminal.
When you connect a Fujitsu host through an SNA SDLC interface, the EM3270
emulator modifies the functionality of these terminals to emulate a Fujitsu 66xx
Japanese display subsystem.
You can configure the EM3270 emulator in a single-application session with an IBM
host application, in a dual-application session with the capability of switching between a
Tandem application and an IBM host application, or in a printer session. In the printer
session, EM3270 serves as an IBM 328x printer emulator so that an IBM host
application can access Tandem printers.
This manual is intended for Tandem computer system managers and application
programmers responsible for configuring and running EM3270 processes. This manual
is directed at the reader with experience configuring Tandem systems and who is
familiar with Tandem and IBM applications.
The Tandem 6526, 653x, and TS530 terminals, and personal computers fully emulating
these terminals, are collectively referred to in this manual as “Tandem terminals.” Any
personal computer fully emulating these terminals is included in the reference.
Manual Organization
The information in this manual is organized as follows:
•
Section 1: Product Components and Operation. This section describes
operational characteristics of EM3270, provides an overview of its host interfaces,
and introduces its command set. This section also identifies unsupported 3270
features and those features that function somewhat differently in the Tandem
environment.
Note. To run Japanese applications that use the Kanji double-byte character set on an IBM or
Fujitsu host, use the Tandem EM3270 emulator and a Kanji-supported terminal. Kanji-
supported terminals include: IBM’s 3270 Kanji terminal, Fujitsu’s 66xx Kanji terminal, and
Japanese personal computers. Japanese personal computers also require Tandem's Japanese
PC6530 (PCT) emulator. To run Korean applications that use the Hangul double-byte character
set on an IBM host, use the EM3270 emulator and a Hangul-supported terminal, such as a
KS6501.
Note. To run Kanji, Hangul, or IBM 5250 applications on an IBM host, you cannot use binary
synchronous connections. Only SNA SDLC connections are allowed.
