Color-Mapping and Function-Key
Mapping
This appendix describes the EM3270 emulator PC6530 (PCT) color support and
provides three user-replaceable procedures that control color mapping for 3270 base and
extended color support.
It also summarizes the function-key mapping operations that take place when the
emulator is running and describes the procedures for replacing the standard set of
function-key mappings with a customized set.
PCT Color Mapping
If you are using PCT version C20 or later, these procedures are not needed. They are
maintained to provide compatibility with previous releases of EM3270.
Use the CONFIG utility program provided with the PCT product to modify the
configuration file PCT.INI. Include COLOR_MAPPING_ON in the PCT.INI file and the
EM3270 emulator automatically maps the IBM colors to the terminal colors. Refer to
the PCT6530 User's Guide for specific directions.
The EM3270 emulator provides support for 3270 color attributes to work with PCT. The
following color mapping facility is provided for anyone not using a current version of
PCT, version C20 or greater. To enable this support, use the SET command specifying:
SET DEVICE COLOR ON
With COLOR set to ON, extended highlighting attributes are ignored by the EM3270
emulator. Refer to Section 4, “EM3270 Emulator Command Set,” for a complete
explanation of the SET command.
The EM3270 emulator provides three user-replaceable procedures that control color
mapping for base and extended color support. These procedures associate specific video
settings with the corresponding 3270 base and extended attribute values. They are listed
in the “Color-Support Mapping” sections later in this appendix.
IBM 3270 Color Support
The IBM 3270 color terminals support two types of color control by application
programs. The first is base color mapping and provides four colors for programs that use
the Start Field Order (SF) to create fields. Since SF has no provision for color
specification, the colors are assigned as follows:
Note. You can also use the EM3270 emulator color feature with conventional Tandem
terminals to provide reverse and underline video for existing IBM host applications.
