Supplemental Information for D-Series
Systems
D-series EM3270 and EMCOM run on Tandem’s D-series operating system software
and make use of the features in the D-series system. This appendix provides specific
information about the D-series EM3270 and EMCOM products and Tandem’s D-series
operating system, relevant to the Tandem EM3270 Manual.
D-Series EM3270 and EMCOM Features
D-series EM3270 and EMCOM can accommodate high PINs available with D-series
system software. The following is a brief listing of the D-series compatibility features:
D-series EM3270 and EMCOM run on the D-series operating system and support
the features of the D-series system, including high PINs. However, EM3270 and
EMCOM do not support the D-series naming conventions for files and processes.
(See Tandem’s Introduction to D-series Systems.)
D-series EMCOM screen displays that include PINs accommodate the longer PINs
allowed by the D-series operating system.
D-series EM3270 and EMCOM conform to the networking restrictions of D-series
system software (described in Tandem’s Introduction to D-Series Systems).
D-series EM3270 and EMCOM default to run at a high PIN.
An application designed to run with EM3270 on a C-series system will run on a
D-series system. The application does not require any changes, as long as it is
assigned a low PIN. Applications that have been converted to run with D-series
systems can be assigned either high PINs or low PINs.
Table L-1 summarizes the execution attributes of EM3270 and EMCOM operating on a
D-series system.
