Related D-Series Documentation
This appendix documents only information on the D-series operating system that is
specific to EM3270 and EMCOM and the Tandem EM3270 Manual. For additional
information on the D-series operating system, refer to the following Tandem documents:

D-Series and C-Series Compatibility
D-series EM3270 and EMCOM adhere to the rules and conventions that govern network
communication and compatibility between D-series software, C-series software, and
B-series software.
D-series EM3270 and EMCOM run only on the D-series operating system. However,
with restrictions, they can communicate with C-series operating systems.
C-series EM3270 and EMCOM can run on either C-series or D-series operating
systems, but cannot make full use of the high PINs of the D-series system.
For additional information on high PINs, low PINs, and the advantages of the D-series
operating system, refer to the Introduction to D-series Systems.
Networking Restrictions
There are restrictions on how D-series EM3270 and EMCOM and processes on
D-series, C-series, and B-series operating systems can communicate. These restrictions
follow the general rules of compatibility between D-series, C-series, and B-series
operating systems. Table L-2 summarizes the possible hybrid network configurations.
Issues new operator messages Yes No
Issues new tokens No Yes
