Glossary
AID character. Attention ID character. A character inserted at the beginning of an incoming
3270 data stream that identifies which key (A1 through A15) on the display terminal
was pressed, causing the transmission of screen data.
AIM. A Fujitsu host subsystem.
AM6520. An access method that permits application programs to access individual Tandem
terminals operating in block mode and connected via a multipoint communications line.
AM6520 permits application programs to issue file-system requests (such as OPEN,
READ, WRITE) without concern for communications line management requirements.
ASCII. American National Standard Code for Information Interchange. A 7-bit character
code, developed by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), that is used to
represent alphanumeric characters and symbols within a computer system.
ATP6100. Asynchronous terminal process for use with the 6100 family of controllers.
BBI. Begin bracket indicator for SNA.
BIND. Session initiation request or response unit for SNA.
Bisynchronous. Byte synchronous.
CMI. Communications Management Interface. A Tandem subsystem used for configuring
and controlling communications subsystems such as SNAX/XF.
CONFIG. Utility program provided with the PCT product.
CRT protocol. A high-level 3270 protocol used by SNAX/XF to support block-mode
communications with certain SNA 3270 display stations and printers.
CRT. Cathode Ray Tube.
CRTPID. NonStop Kernel process identifier.
CUP. Communications Utility Program.
DBCS. Double-Byte Character Set.
DDL. Data definition language.
Default values. Values supplied by a program when values are not supplied by the user.
DSM. Distributed Systems Management.
EBCDIC. Extended Binary-Coded Decimal Interchange Code. A code system developed by
the IBM Corporation to represent data within many of their computer systems.
