Emulator Features
Functions) and SNAX/CDF (Systems Network Architecture (SNA)
Communications Services/Cross Domain Facility) products, when used with
NonStop systems running the NonStop operating system. The EM3270 emulator can
access IBM hosts using both bisynchronous and SNA interfaces. Fujitsu hosts can
only be accessed using SNAX/XF.
•
Tandem/IBM host application switching. In a dual-application session, you can
switch between the Tandem and IBM host application environments in either of two
ways: with a function key at the terminal or with the data streams between the
EM3270 emulator and the applications. Using Tandem terminals, screens from both
applications are saved within the terminal. When you switch between applications,
the screen contents and cursor location are restored immediately.
•
Multiple IBM host support. You can define up to six IBM host applications for one
terminal when configuring a terminal session. The applications can be on the same
or different IBM hosts. Combinations of bisynchronous and SNA applications are
permitted. Once an EM3270 emulator session is underway, you can use a menu to
switch between the available applications. You can run only one host application at a
time.
•
Printer interface. When the host system uses an SNA interface, the Tandem
printers can function as either logical unit (LU) type l or type 3 devices. When the
bisynchronous mode is used, the printers function in a manner similar to SNALU
type 3 devices. Although Tandem printers can function as either LU type 1 or 3, you
must define the host printer LU as PROTOCOL SNALU and TYPE (14, 0) using the
Subsystem Control Facility (SCF).
•
Screen print. Screen images displayed by either the host or Tandem application can
be printed on any Tandem printer or stored in a disk file.
•
Support of sessions with either IBM or Fujitsu Kanji hosts. The following is a
list of terminal and emulators that are supported for these types of Kanji host
sessions:
IBM 3191 (with Katakana)
IBM 5578 (3270 Kanji display)
Japanese PC (with 3270 Kanji emulator)
Japanese PC (with 66xx Kanji emulator)
Japanese PC (with Tandem’s Japanese PCT emulator)
Fujitsu 66xx
•
Support of sessions with IBM Hangul hosts. The Korean KS6501 terminal is
required to access Hangul hosts.
•
Kanji and Hangul sessions supported only with the SNA host interface. This
applies when the IBM or Fujitsu application uses a multiple-byte character set.
Note. The EM3270 emulator enables communication between any combination of host type
and the above listed terminals. For example, an IBM host application can communicate with a
Fujitsu terminal.
