Bisynchronous Mode Session
Logging on to an IBM application is the same regardless of whether switching to a
Tandem application is permitted. In the bisynchronous mode, the IBM host application
opens the terminal and starts polling under control of commands issued by the IBM
central operator. If the timeout value for the terminal has not expired, you can initiate
processing by pressing the CLEAR key. When the terminal timeout value has expired,
the IBM central operator must manually restart the polling process.
SNA Mode Session
In the SNA environment, a session can be established by the IBM central operator in a
manner similar to that described for the bisynchronous mode, or it can be established by
a request from the terminal. Options selected when the host application is configured by
a SYSGEN (NonStop Kernel system generation program) determine which method
applies. The terminal requests a session in either of the following ways:
With an INIT-SELF request issued when a SET SNALOGON command is executed
for the terminal.
With a logon sequence. If you know the logon sequence for the IBM host
application that you wish to use, you can enter it from the initial screen displayed.
You do not have to use the SYSREQ key to get to the IBM host initial prompt.
Standard IBM Logon Sequence
Logging on with a logon sequence applies only to terminals. The standard IBM logon
sequence is:
APPLID application-name
specifies an application identifier from one to eight characters in length.
LOGMODE logmode-table-name
specifies a logmode table identifier from one to eight characters in length. The
logmode table contains parameters that define the SNA rules for the session.
DATA user-data
specifies user information to be sent to the application. The way this field is
interpreted depends on the application. It could be the user ID or any command
recognizable by the application.
Up to six IBM host applications can be accessed by a terminal through the emulator, but
you can access only one application at a time. The SET commands that you issue when
you configure the subsystem define the file names of the applications.
