zero-bit insertion
zero-bit insertion. A method of distinguishing other fields from the flag field in a bit-
synchronous frame. The only field where six successive 1 bits may occur is the flag. In
all other fields, EnvoyACP/XF on the transmitting end automatically inserts a 0 bit after
five successive 1 bits. The EnvoyACP/XF on the receiving end automatically strips the
added 1 bits.
