EnvoyACP/XF and the Application Task
This section describes the relationship between EnvoyACP/XF and your application
program. The following information is presented:
•
Basic features common to all bit-synchronous protocols
•
Services that EnvoyACP/XF provides to control bit-synchronous communications
lines automatically
•
Tasks that your application program must perform
A general overview of the bit-synchronous protocols and the relationship between
EnvoyACP/XF and the Guardian file system is given here. Sections 2 through 4 describe
the programming considerations particular to each protocol supported by
EnvoyACP/XF:
EnvoyACP/XF works with a user application to create a complete access method
enabling Tandem systems to access I/O devices. Each device is a station within a data
communications network.
User applications interface with EnvoyACP/XF through the Guardian file-system
procedures. The EnvoyACP/XF product version F40 runs on Himalaya S-series servers
and communicates through the ServerNet system area network and the ServerNet WAN
concentrator. (See Figure 1-1, Application-EnvoyACP/XF Relationship
.)
