OPTION2/NOOPTION2
OPTION2 enables an alternate form of station management to support the link
establishment characteristics necessary to interface with an IBM SDLC Loop (Token
Ring) Controller.
OPTION2: Interfacing with an IBM SDLC Loop Controller
To establish a link to a remote station through the IBM Loop Controller, the primary
station sends a SNRM to the concentrator. Upon receiving the SNRM, the IBM Loop
Controller responds to the primary station with DM and then attempts to contact the
tributary station to which the SNRM was directed.
The IBM Loop Controller expects the primary station to issue the SNRM request a
second time. This configuration assumes that the concentrator has enough time to
establish contact with the selected tributary station before the second SNRM is
received. If the tributary station responds with a UA to the SNRM sent to it by the
concentrator, the concentrator can respond to the second SNRM with a positive
response (UA), and the session can be established.
If you specify OPTION2, EnvoyACP/XF retries sending the SNRM when DM is
received as a response. EnvoyACP/XF resends the SNRM when the T1TIMER interval
expires, and continues to retry sending the SNRM up to the amount of retries specified
for L2RETRY.
NOOPTION2: Standard Link Establishment
In standard station management (the default), a primary station does not retry sending
a SNRM when it receives DM in response. This form of station management is
incompatible with the IBM Loop Controller.
You cannot alter this modifier by issuing a SETMODE procedure in an application or by
issuing an SCF ALTER LINE command to the EnvoyACP/XF subsystem.
OPTION3/NOOPTION3
This modifier is used to control the generation of FCS error messages. When this
modifier is specified, FCS error messages are generated for every frame on which an
FCS error is detected.
OPTION5/NOOPTION5
This is applicable only in NRM mode. The default is NOOPTION5. When set, in LDS
state, whenever a UI is received, the secondary responds with DM.
Default: NOOPTION2
Units: N/A
Range: N/A
Note: Only for SDLC.
