data link control (DLC).
data link control (DLC). A set of functions associated with Layer 2 of the Open Systems
Interconnection (OSI) reference model. These functions are responsible for reliable
communication between two physically connected nodes.
data link control (DLC) task. WAN DLC tasks support the equivalent to level 2 of the
ISO/OSI Seven-Layer Model. The WAN DLC tasks execute in the SWAN concentrator
communications line interface processor (CLIP). Each DLC task controls one line
interface. More than one type of DLC task can run in the same CLIP. Two DLC tasks
run in each CLIP.
data set ready (DSR) signal. A signal coming from a modem that usually indicates to the
computer equipment that the modem is powered on.
data-terminal equipment (DTE). (1) Equipment usually comprising the following
functional units: control logic, buffer store, and one or more input or output devices or
computers. It may also contain error control, synchronization, and station identification
capability. (2) Equipment that constitutes the data source and/or data sink and provides
for the communication control function protocol; it includes any piece of equipment at
which a communication path begins or ends.
DCE. See data circuit-terminating equipment (DCE).
DEVICE object. A configurable object within the WAN subsystem SCF interface that
represents a data communications subsystem object.
Distributed Systems Management (DSM). A set of products that supports the integrated
management of system and network resources and operation. DSM products include the
Subsystem Programmatic Interface (SPI), the Event Management Service (EMS), the
Distributed Name Service (DNS), the DSM Template Services, the Subsystem Control
Facility (SCF) for data communications subsystems. DSM also includes a set of
management applications, including ViewPoint, Distributed System Management
Solutions (DSMS), and the DSM/Problem Manager (DSM/PM). See also Subsystem
Programmatic Interface (SPI).
DLC task. See data link control (DLC) task
.
DSM. See Distributed Systems Management (DSM).
DSR. See data set ready (DSR) signal..
DTE. See data-terminal equipment (DTE).
EBCDIC. Extended binary-coded decimal interchange code. An 8-bit coded character set.
One of two major codes used to represent and exchange data (the other is ASCII).
EBCDIC uses the eighth bit for an information bit, which extends the range of distinct
characters to 256.
Electronics Industries Association (EIA) interface standard RS-232-B or C. A
standardized method adopted by the Electronic Industries Association to ensure
uniformity of interface between data communications equipment and data processing
