WAN subsystem
WAN subsystem. The WAN subsystem is used to configure and manage I/O processes and
provides access to the SWAN concentrator. The WAN subsystem consists of several
components including the WAN manager process, the ConMgr and WANBoot
processes, and the WAN subsystem SCF interface.
wide area network (WAN). A communication system that connects geographically dispersed
sites or local area networks (LANs). WANs are primarily used to interconnect an
organization’s voice, video, data, and computer business systems including LANs. A
WAN links these communications systems outside the organization’s properties and
crosses public areas that are regulated by local, national, or international authorities.
wild-card character. A character that stands for any possible character or characters in a
search string or in a name applying to multiple objects. In Subsystem Control Facility
(SCF) object-name templates, two wild-card characters can appear: ? (question mark)
for a single character and * (asterisk) for zero or more consecutive characters.
