Tasks You Can Perform Using SCF
The Envoy subsystem has two objects: the LINE object, which represents the
communications line, and the PROCESS object, which represents the line-handler
process. These are described in further detail in Envoy Object Types and Names on
page 4-6.
Topics described in this section include the following:
•
Tasks You Can Perform Using SCF on page 4-2
•

Tasks You Can Perform Using SCF
The SCF product module for Envoy provides commands for both management and
monitoring tasks.
Monitoring Tasks
SCF commands for Envoy enable you to get information about:
•
The current configuration data of an Envoy line (INFO)
•
The current state of a line, including its SWAN configuration, LDEV, and processor
numbers and PINs of the primary and backup processes (STATUS)
•
The number of I/O messages and errors on an Envoy line (STATS)
•
The version level of Envoy line-handler processes (VERSION)
Management Tasks
In addition, SCF commands for Envoy enable you to perform the following
configuration and management functions:
•
Change values and some attributes of an Envoy line (ALTER)
•
Terminate the activity of an Envoy line in either a rapid or controlled manner
(ABORT/STOP)
•
Initiate, modify, or terminate tracing for Envoy lines (TRACE)
•
Initiate operation of an Envoy line and place it in the STARTED state (START)
•
Change the backup processor (CPU) and PATH used by the line-handler process
(PRIMARY)
Stopping a LINE Object
To make changes to the LINE object, first stop or abort the line, then change it and
restart it. The following example shows how to stop a line by issuing an SCF command:
-> STOP LINE $ENV01
