Overview of the E4SA
The Ethernet 4 ServerNet adapter (E4SA) is a ServerNet adapter that supports four
Ethernet interfaces and communicates with multiple processors through its dual
ServerNet interfaces to the ServerNet fabrics.
In a NonStop S-series server, each processor enclosure can house two E4SAs and
each I/O enclosure can house up to four E4SAs. Four physical interfaces (PIFs), four
logical interfaces (LIFs), and multiple filters are associated with each E4SA, and each
E4SA contains two ServerNet Addressable Controllers (SACs). A SAC corresponds to
controller functionality uniquely addressable within one or more ServerNet address
domains through the node ID and address fields in a request packet.
Four Media Access Control (MAC) addresses are assigned to the PIFs at
manufacturing. These addresses are printed on the label of each adapter.
External Connectors and Indicators
The external connectors on an E4SA are four 10BaseT RJ-45 type connectors, two
debugging ports, and a power interface. The debugging ports are for manufacturing
only.
The external indicators consist of two status LEDs for the E4SA, and four status LEDs
for each Ethernet port. Figure 1-1 on page 1-3 shows the position of the external
connectors and indicators on the front of the adapter.
The two E4SA status LEDs, which are controlled by the Service Processor (SP),
indicate the state of the E4SA as follows:
The four status LEDs on each Ethernet port indicate the activity on and condition of the
Ethernet port as follows:
Note. E4SAs (including E4SA connections via S-series I/O enclosures) are not supported on
NonStop BladeSystems.
