Installation
This section describes how to install EMS Analyzer. EMS Analyzer is designed to be
used with the Event Management Service (EMS). EMS Analyzer operation requires
proper EMS operation. For additional information about event management, refer to the
EMS Manual.
EMS Analyzer System Requirements
EMS Analyzer requires the Tandem NonStop operating system, release C30 or later.
There are no additional system dependencies. The EMS Analyzer ISV subvolume uses
about 600 kilobytes of disk space. The Data Definition Language (DDL) source file
(EMSADDL) for Enscribe database files is compiled when running the installation
routine (INSTEMSA). The resulting files require additional disk space of about
100 kilobytes.
Installation Guidelines
The EMS Analyzer installation routine (INSTEMSA) follows certain general guidelines
when installing an EMS Analyzer software update:
Files released by Tandem replace any previous versions of the same file.
If installation replaces an old copy of a file, the new file is given the owner and
security of the old file.
When the installation routine creates a new file, the new file is owned by the user
running the installation routine. The security attributes are set to the user’s default
file security.
The EMS Analyzer installation routine (INSTEMSA) automates installation of EMS
Analyzer software and subsequent updates. It affects the following files:
Program and configuration files for EMS Analyzer program.
Help text and supporting example files.
Data Definition Language (DDL) source file for the Enscribe event database.
Installation Procedures
The installation procedure can be summarized as follows:
The INSTALL program transfers a release of EMS Analyzer from tape to an
Installation Subvolume (ISV).
A TACL routine (INSTEMSA) located in the EMS Analyzer installation subvolume,
ZEMSA, is then used to install EMS Analyzer.
Note. EMS Analyzer runs on the C30.05 (May 1991) or later release of the NonStop Kernel
operating system.
