Step 3. Collect Additional Information as Necessary
In general, you need to be prepared to report what Exchange/RJE was attempting to
do at the time of the failure. Some useful information includes:
The commands being executed by Exchange/RJE
A copy of the command file, if you are using one
The history of the problem (Has it happened before? If so, when, and under what
conditions? Can you reproduce it? If so, state how to reproduce the problem.)
A list of any recent changes to the system, including but not limited to new or
changed configuration parameters, new or upgraded software modules, new
hardware components, or changed command files.
In addition, if any of the following conditions are true, you need to prepare the
additional information indicated.
Connection Problems. If you are unable to connect to the host, please include the
following:
Envoy or CP6100 SYSGEN parameters
The command file used to set up the RJECIR environment
The LOGON file
The Exchange/RJE command interpreter output
The line definitions from JES2, JES3, or the appropriate host application
A trace obtained by issuing SET TRACE ON before the CONNECT command
Problems After Connection. If you have a problem after successfully connecting to the
host , please include the following:
The information specified for connection problems.
If you are reporting an abend, include the SAVE and OBJECT files of the server
that abnormally terminated.
If you are using an application rather than the command interpreter, describe in as
much detail as possible the interaction between the application and the line server.
Include procedure calls, the order of the calls, the parameters specified (especially
any timeout values), and so on.
A trace of the line.
The trace file collected from Exchange/RJE.
Note that these two traces must cover the same time period and must include the time
when the problem occurred.
