Block Mode With 2780 and 3780 Blocking
Block mode with 2780 blocking and block mode with 3780 blocking function the same
as 2780-emulation mode and 3780-emulation mode, respectively, with the following
exceptions:
The allowed range of block sizes for both send and receive operations is from 2 to
4084 bytes.
The maximum record size allowed for 2780 blocking is the block size.
The maximum record size allowed for 3780 blocking is the block size minus one.
The comments under subheading “Choosing Between 2780- and 3780-Emulation
Mode” (preceding) also apply to the choice between block mode with 2780 blocking
and block mode with 3780 blocking.
Block Mode Without Blocking
Block mode without blocking does not emulate any standard type of data
communications terminal. It does, however, conform to standard BSC line-control
protocols.
The major features of block mode without blocking are the following:
The allowed range of record (and block) sizes for both send and receive operations
is from 2 to 4084 bytes.
Only one record per block is allowed.
The sending and receiving of normal text and transparent text is supported.
Block mode without blocking automatically translates ASCII data to EBCDIC
when sending data to the remote system over an EBCDIC data communications
line, and automatically translates EBCDIC data to ASCII when receiving data from
the remote system over an EBCDIC data communications line. Automatic
translation can be suppressed for transparent text if you so specify.
Neither truncation nor blank compression is supported.
