2 Using the Exchange/RJE
Command Interpreter

This section provides instruction on how to use the Exchange/RJE command
interpreter to send files to and receive files from a remote system. This section covers
the following information:
A summary of the commands
Operational considerations
Step-by-step instructions

Command Summary Table 2-1 lists the Exchange/RJE commands and briefly describes each one.
Table 2-1. Command Summary
Command Function
ABORT Stops a send or receive operation.
COMMENT Identifies a comment line in a file of Exchange/RJE commands.
CONNECT Establishes a connection between the Exchange/RJE command interpreter, the
send/receive server, the line server, and the data communications line. Starts
the line server if it does not already exist.
DISCONNECT Ends the connection between the components of Exchange/RJE and the data
communications line.
DUMP Formats and lists the contents of a trace file.
EXIT Stops the Exchange/RJE command interpreter and returns control to your
command interpreter.
FC Edits the last command and allows the edited command to be executed.
HELP Displays a list of Exchange/RJE commands or the syntax of individual
commands.
INTERRUPT Requests the remote system to stop transmitting data.
OBEY Executes a series of Exchange/RJE commands read from a file.
RECEIVE Receives records from the remote system and appends them to the specified
file.
RESET Sets one or more configuration parameters to their default values.
SEND Sends a file to the remote system.
SET Specifies values for the configuration parameters.
SHOW Displays the values of the configuration parameters, information about the
Exchange/RJE line server, or information about any send or receive operation
that may be in progress.
STATUS Displays statistics about all send and receive operations performed during the
current connection.
TRACE Starts and stops the Exchange/RJE trace server, which logs the activity on the
data communications line.
