Sending and Receiving
Files Using the
Command Interpreter
This subsection provides an overview on how to use the Exchange/RJE command
interpreter to send files to and receive files from a remote system.
Most uses of the command interpreter follow the same general sequence of steps.
These steps are outlined below.
1. Start the command interpreter.
2. Set the configuration parameters.
3. Establish the connection with the data communications line.
4. Perform the operation.
5. End the connection with the data communications line.
6. Stop the command interpreter.
Each step is explained in more detail below.
Step 1: Start the Command
Interpreter
Before you can use the Exchange/RJE command interpreter, you must start it. The
RJECIR command starts the command interpreter. The RJECIR command is an
implied RUN command; you enter it at any command interpreter prompt. For a
description of the RJECIR command, see Section 3. For a description of the RUN
command, see the TACL Reference Manual.
Step 2: Set the
Configuration Parameters
The configuration parameters control the configuration of the line server that the
command interpreter will use. You can use the SET command to specify the
configuration parameters. You can also specify the configuration parameters in the
RJECIR command that you use to start the command interpreter.
At a minimum, you must specify the data communications line that you want to use.
You can also specify whether you want to use an existing line server or start a new line
server. You can also specify block mode (with or without blocking).
For a complete description of the configuration parameters and how they control the
line server, see the RJECIR command and the SET command in Section 3.
Step 3: Establish the
Connection
Before you can communicate with the remote system, you must establish the
connection between the Exchange/RJE components and the data communications line.
The CONNECT command establishes this connection. The CONNECT command can
also dial the telephone if you are using a switched data communications line with an
automatic calling unit (ACU), or have supplied your own user-exit procedure that uses
an automatic dialing modem. For more information, see the subsection entitled “The
User-Exit Procedure,” above.
In the CONNECT command, you must specify the type of emulation (or the type of
blocking) you want to perform, 2780 or 3780. For a complete description of the
CONNECT command, see Section 3.
