Exchange/RJE Manual

Example Operations
Using the Exchange/RJE Command Interpreter

As part of establishing the connection, the CONNECT command starts the
send/receive server. If you have set the configuration parameters so that a new line
server is to be used instead of an existing line server, the CONNECT command also
starts the line server.
The CONNECT command can start a temporary line server or a named line server
depending on how you have set the configuration parameters. The difference between
a temporary line server and a named line server is that a temporary line server is
stopped when you end the connection, but a named line server is not stopped when
you end the connection. A named line server remains available for use until you stop
it with the TACL STOP command.
Step 4: Perform the
Operation
This is the step where you perform the task of communicating with the remote system.
This step can consist of sending files, receiving files, or both.
The SEND command sends a single file to the remote system. The RECEIVE
command receives one or more files from the remote system. You can mix SEND and
RECEIVE commands in any order during the same connection. For a complete
description of the SEND and RECEIVE commands, see Section 3.
Step 5: End the
Connection
When you have completed your task, you should end the connection between the
Exchange/RJE components and the data communications line. The DISCONNECT
command ends this connection.
As part of ending the connection, the DISCONNECT command stops the send/receive
server and the line server, if it is a temporary line server. For a complete description of
the DISCONNECT command, see Section 3.
Step 6: Stop the Command
Interpreter
The last step is to stop the Exchange/RJE command interpreter and return to the
operating system command interpreter. The EXIT command stops the Exchange/RJE
command interpreter. The EXIT command also performs an implicit DISCONNECT
command if a connection still exists when you enter the EXIT command. For a
complete description of the EXIT command, see Section 3.
Example Operations This subsection provides examples of how to send files to and receive files from a
remote system using the Exchange/RJE command interpreter. These examples do not
explain the commands in detail, but merely show how the commands are used
together to perform typical operations. You may want to refer to Section 3 for a
detailed description of each command. Also, these examples do not show the
messages displayed by the command interpreter.
Using a Nonswitched Line This example shows how to send a job to a remote system and then receive the
resulting output using a nonswitched (leased or dedicated) data communications line.
1. Start the Exchange/RJE command interpreter.
>RJECIR
2. Specify the data communications line you want to use.
>SET LINE $RJE1
