Exchange/RJE Manual
CONNECT Command
Exchange/RJE Commands
3–10 104698 Tandem Computers Incorporated
< Specifies the end of the telephone number. The end of the telephone
number must be specified in many European telephone systems, but it is
not specified in North American telephone systems.
If no ACU is present and a user library has not been specified, the DIAL
parameter displays a message on the operator’s console that tells the operator
to dial the specified telephone number (perform a manual dial-up operation).
When the connection is made, the message CONNECTED is displayed.
If you are using an ACU and Exchange/RJE is unable to make the telephone
connection (for example, if the line is busy), the message SERVER RETURNED
ERROR
nnn
is displayed, where
nnn
is the file-system error number returned
to Exchange/RJE. See the ENVOY Byte-Oriented Protocols Reference Manual for
more information on errors resulting from ACU operations.
The DIAL parameter must not be specified if the data communications line is a
nonswitched (leased) line.
L[OGON]
filename
specifies the name of a file that contains the logon sequence for the remote
system. The file can contain one or more fixed-length records of up to 80
characters each. All records in the file are sent to the remote system as soon as
the connection is established.
If you omit the volume name, the default volume is your current default
volume. If you omit both the volume and subvolume names, the default
volume and subvolume are your current default volume and subvolume. You
can omit the LOGON parameter if the remote system does not require a logon
sequence. You can also omit the LOGON parameter if a logon sequence is
required and you use the SEND command to send the logon sequence to the
remote system.
P[RIMARY] | S[ECONDARY]
specifies the PRIMARY or SECONDARY status of the local system. The value
you specify here overrides the value specified during system generation. If
you omit this parameter, the value specified during system generation is used.
Typically, the local system is set to PRIMARY. (That is, a 2780 or 3780
terminal is usually set to PRIMARY and the computer with which the terminal
is communicating is usually set to SECONDARY.)
