DISCONNECT
Command
The DISCONNECT command ends the connection between the Exchange/RJE
command interpreter, the send/receive server, the line server, and the data
communications line.
DI[SCONNECT]
Line Activity The DISCONNECT command sends a DLE EOT (disconnect sequence) to the remote
system. For switched lines, this breaks the physical connection between the local
system and the remote system by causing both systems to disconnect from the line (go
“on-hook” or, in other words, hang up the telephone). For both switched and
nonswitched lines, the disconnect sequence places both systems in a logically
disconnected state, and a new connection must be established before any
communication can occur.
Considerations The DISCONNECT command ends the connection between the Exchange/RJE
command interpreter, the Exchange/RJE send/receive server, the Exchange/RJE line
server, and the data communications line. For switched lines, the DISCONNECT
command also ends the physical connection with the remote system.
You can issue Exchange/RJE commands after a DISCONNECT command. For
example, you can use the SET command to change the data communications line and
then use the CONNECT command to establish a connection with the new data
communications line.
DISCONNECT During a Send or Receive Operation
If you issue a DISCONNECT command while a send or receive operation is in
progress, a message is displayed asking if you want to disconnect. If you respond yes
(Y), the operation is terminated and the disconnect occurs. This may leave the remote
system expecting to transmit data or otherwise in an incomplete state. If you want to
end a send or receive operation prematurely, it may be better to use the ABORT
command. See the ABORT command earlier in this section for more information.
If you respond no (N) to the message asking if you want to disconnect, the send or
receive operation continues uninterrupted.
Exchange/RJE Send/Receive Server
The DISCONNECT command stops the Exchange/RJE send/receive server.
Exchange/RJE Line Server
If the line server is a temporary line server, the DISCONNECT command stops the line
server. The line server is stopped even if it resides on a different system than the
Exchange/RJE command interpreter.
