Appendix A Exchange/SNA Messages
104700 Tandem Computers Incorporated A–1
This appendix lists the messages displayed by Exchange/SNA. In those cases where
the message indicates an error, the probable source of the error is given, along with
suggested actions to take to recover from the error. This appendix also contains a
section outlining what you should do before contacting Tandem in the event you have
a problem with Exchange/SNA that you cannot solve by yourself.
This appendix presents the following information:
Exchange/SNA message format
Command interpreter messages
Send/receive server messages
Line server messages
Trace server messages
Activities to perform before contacting your Tandem representative
Message Format All messages issued by Exchange/SNA have the following format:
XXXXNNC
message-text
XXXX
is a four-letter code that indicates the Exchange/SNA component that issued the
message. The different codes and the corresponding components are:
EXTR The trace server
SNCI The command interpreter
SNSR The send/receive server
SNSV The line server
NN
is the message number. If the message number is followed by an asterisk (*), the
message is one of possibly several lines following the first line in a multiple-line
message.
C
is a single-letter code that indicates the severity of the error (if any). The different
codes and their meanings are:
F This is a fatal error; the error prevents Exchange/SNA from executing.
E This is an error that prevents the attempted operation from completing
successfully.
W This is a warning message. It informs you of an error that does not prevent the
operation from completing successfully.
If no code follows the message number, the message provides information and does
not indicate an error.
