Configuration Parameters When Starting a New Line Server
When you intend to start a new line server by using a subsequent CONNECT
command, you must specify the following configuration parameters:
LINE Specifies the data communications line that you want to use.
HOST Specifies the RJE subsystem on the host system.
LOGON Specifies the file that contains the command required to log on to the host
system.
The above configuration parameters are the minimum you must specify to start a new
line server. You can specify more if you want to start a line server with a
configuration other than the default configuration. The default configuration is the
following:
A temporary process name for the line server
One printer subdevice named PR1
One card-punch subdevice named PU1
One card-reader subdevice named RD1
No console subdevice
No command character for sending commands to the host RJE subsystem
You can set configuration parameters to change one or more of the above items. For a
complete list of the configuration parameters, see the SET command described in
Section 3.
Configuration Parameters and Existing Line Servers
When you want to connect to an existing line server, you must specify the name of the
line server you want to use (by using the NAME parameter). You may or may not
need to specify other configuration parameters, depending on which form of the
CONNECT command you use.
CONNECT Without an Exclamation Point (CONNECT). This form of the CONNECT
command requires that the values of the configuration parameters, as currently
specified in the Exchange/SNA command interpreter, match the configuration of the
specified line server. If any of the values do not agree, the CONNECT command fails
and an error message is displayed. For example, if the line server was set up to
support five printer subdevices and the PRINTER configuration parameter specifies
two printer subdevices, the CONNECT command fails because the configuration
parameters (the PRINTER parameter in this case) do not agree. This form of the
CONNECT command requires you to know the configuration of the line server before
you can establish a connection with that line server.
