CONNECT Command
Exchange/SNA Commands

CONNECT Command The CONNECT command establishes a connection between the Exchange/SNA
command interpreter and the Exchange/SNA line server.
CONNECT [ ! ]
!
specifies that, when using the CONNECT command to establish a connection with
an existing line server, the current values of the configuration parameters specified
in the command interpreter need not match the configuration parameters in effect
when the line server was started. The configuration parameters in effect when the
line server was started are in effect for all subsequent operations using that line
server.
If you omit this parameter and attempt to establish a connection with an existing
line server, the current configuration parameters (as specified in SET commands
and the RJECIS command that started the command interpreter) must match the
configuration parameters in effect when the line server was started. If the
configuration parameters do not match, the CONNECT command fails and an
error message is displayed.
This parameter has no effect, and causes no errors, when the CONNECT
command starts a new line server.
One or more blanks must separate the exclamation point (!) from CONNECT.
Considerations The CONNECT command establishes a connection between the Exchange/SNA
command interpreter and the Exchange/SNA line server. The exact operation of the
CONNECT command depends on whether you want to start a new line server or
connect to an existing line server and, if you want to connect to an existing line server,
which form of the CONNECT command you use (with or without the exclamation
point). Each case is discussed below.
Using CONNECT to Start a New Line Server
Before you can use the CONNECT command to start a new line server, you must
specify the following configuration parameters:
LINE
HOST
LOGON
You can specify these parameters in the RJECIS command when you start the
command interpreter or in the SET command after you have started the command
interpreter (or a combination of the two). You can also specify configuration
parameters other than those listed above. However, the other configuration
parameters are optional, and their default values are used if you do not specify other
values.
