CONNECT Command
Exchange/SNA Commands
104700 Tandem Computers Incorporated 3–9
Duration of the Connection With the Host
When the CONNECT command starts a new line server, a connection is established
between the new line server and the host. The connection between the line server and
the host lasts until the line server is stopped by using the Exchange/SNA STOP
command. The command interpreter that stops the line server must be privileged
with respect to that line server (it must have the same accessor (user) ID as the
command interpreter that started the line server). For more information, see the STOP
command later in this section.
Duration of the Connection With the Line Server
The CONNECT command always establishes a connection between the command
interpreter and the line server. The connection between the command interpreter and
the line server lasts until the first DISCONNECT, EXIT, or STOP command.
The DISCONNECT and EXIT commands end the connection between the command
interpreter and the line server. They do not affect any connections between other
Exchange/SNA command interpreters (or other processes) and the line server, nor do
they end the connection between the line server and the host. See the DISCONNECT
and EXIT commands, later in this section, for more information.
As noted earlier, the STOP command stops the line server, which ends all connections
between the line server and other processes, including Exchange/SNA command
interpreters, as well as the connection between the line server and the host. See the
STOP command, later in this section, for more information.
