HELP Command
Exchange/SNA Commands
104700 Tandem Computers Incorporated 3–29
HELP Command The HELP command displays a list of all the Exchange/SNA commands, or the syntax
of individual commands, as specified.
HELP [
command
]... [ OU[T]
output-file
]
command
is an Exchange/SNA command name or the abbreviation for one. If you omit this
parameter, a list of all Exchange/SNA commands is displayed. If you specify one
or more individual commands, the syntax of each specified command is displayed.
AU[TOLOGON] { ON | OFF }
If you specify AUTOLOGON ON, the logon request is not sent to the host and
Exchange/SNA waits for the host to send the BIND command.
If you specify AUTOLOGON OFF, the logon request (either a character-coded
logon command or an INIT-SELF command) is sent to the host.
The default value for AUTOLOGON is xOFF.
OU[T]
output-file
specifies the name of the file to receive the output of the HELP command. If you
omit this parameter, the output of the HELP command is sent to the file specified
in the OUT option of the RJECIS command that started the Exchange/SNA
command interpreter. If you omitted the OUT option on the RJECIS command
and you are running the command interpreter interactively, the output is sent to
the home terminal.
If you specify a disk file (as opposed to a spooler location, for example), the file
must already exist. It must be an unstructured file. You can use the FUP CREATE
command to create the file. The HELP command writes to the file in 80-byte
records.
If you omit the volume name, your current default volume is used. If you omit
both the volume and subvolume names, your current default volume and
subvolume are used.
Considerations The output of the HELP command can be displayed on your terminal or sent to a file
(including printers).
The HELP command provides information on syntax only. For detailed information
on the operation of Exchange/SNA commands, see the command description
elsewhere in this section.
Examples 1. The following example writes a list of all Exchange/SNA commands to the spooler
location #RJECMDS:
