FOX Monitor Process ($ZZFOX)
FOX Monitor Process ($ZZFOX)
The FOX monitor process, $ZZFOX, manages the ServerNet/Fiber eXtension
(ServerNet/FX) adapters and is responsible for maintaining configuration information
about the FOX ring. $ZZFOX must be configured and started before the Expand-over-
FOX line-handler processes can be started. For information about configuring
$ZZFOX, refer to the ServerNet/FX Adapter Configuration and Management Manual.
$ZZFOX.#X and $ZZFOX.#Y
Each ServerNet/FX adapter is identified by a logical interface called an LBU.
$ZZFOX.#X is the name of the LBU that connects to the X-ring and $ZZFOX.#Y is the
name of the LBU that connects to the Y-ring through the ServerNet system area
network (ServerNet SAN). For information about configuring LBUs, refer to the
ServerNet/FX Adapter Configuration and Management Manual.
FOX Driver
The FOX driver is responsible for communicating directly with the ServerNet/FX
adapters. It is provided as part of the NonStop Kernel operating system.
ServerNet/FX Adapters
The ServerNet/FX adapters logically extend the ServerNet fabrics via fiber-optic cables
to other nodes in a FOX-connected network. Two ServerNet/FX adapters are usedā€”
one for the ServerNet X-ring and one for the ServerNet Y-ring.
Once the Expand-over-FOX line-handler processes are started, incoming and outgoing
messages are usually handled directly by the ServerNet fabrics and the ServerNet/FX
adapters; the Expand software is not involved. The Expand-over-FOX line-handler
processes manage security-related messages and forward packets outside the FOX
ring.
The ServerNet/FX adapters and the fiber-optic cabling must be installed before
Expand-over-FOX line-handler processes can be started. The ServerNet/FX adapters
must be installed by a service provider trained by HP. Installation and cabling
information is available in the ServerNet/FX Adapter Installation and Support Guide for
ServerNet/FX adapters and in the ServerNet/FX 2 Adapter Installation and Support
Guide for ServerNet/FX 2 adapters.
Wide Area Network (WAN) Subsystem
You create an Expand-over-FOX line-handler process by adding it as a device to the
WAN subsystem. The WAN subsystem is preconfigured and started during the system
load sequence. For information about the WAN subsystem, refer to the WAN
Subsystem Configuration and Management Manual.
