Expand Configuration and Management Manual (G06.24+)

Expand Configuration and Management Manual523347-008
B-1
B Moving to G-Series Systems
This appendix discusses the differences between G-series versions of the Expand
subsystem (which run on NonStop S-series servers) and D-series (and earlier)
versions of the Expand subsystem (which run on NonStop K-series servers) that affect
Expand network management activities. This appendix describes changes in the
following areas:
Online configuration with the Subsystem Control Facility (SCF)
System generation-to-SCF considerations
COUP-to-SCF considerations
Dynamic configuration and management
EMS event messages
Online Configuration With SCF
On D-series systems, the network control process ($NCP) and Expand line-handler
processes are specified in the CONFTEXT file and are built into the operating system
by system generation. The Configuration Utility Program (COUP), the user interface for
Dynamic System Configuration (DSC), is used to perform online configuration changes
to these processes.
On G-series systems, $NCP and Expand line-handler processes are not prebuilt by
system generation; the CONTROLLERS, PATHS, and PERIPHERALS paragraphs are
eliminated. Instead, system generation creates a base configuration file for a few basic
processes necessary to load the system; then you use Subsystem Control Facility
(SCF) commands to complete the system configuration. COUP is not available on G-
series systems; its functions have also been added to SCF.
$NCP and Expand line-handler processes are configured through the SCF interface to
the WAN subsystem. The WAN subsystem SCF commands used to configure $NCP
and Expand line-handler processes are described in this manual. All the WAN
subsystem SCF commands are described in the WAN Subsystem Configuration and
Management Manual.
The Expand manager process ($ZEXP) is started from the TACL prompt, the same
way it is started on D-series systems.
Note. For a complete discussion of the system-wide issues involved in migrating from the
D-series RVU to the G-series RVU, refer to the Interactive Upgrade Guide.
Note. You can run the migration utility MIGSCF at a TACL prompt to convert COUP
commands to SCF commands. For more information about the MIGSCF conversion utility,
refer to the SCF Reference Manual for G-Series RVUs.
