System Name and System Number Attributes
On G-series systems, SCF also allows you to configure and change the system name
(SYSTEM_NAME) and system number (SYSTEM_NUMBER) attributes. These
attributes are configured through system generation on D-series systems.
For more information about configuring and modifying system attributes, refer to the
SCF Reference Manual for the Kernel Subsystem.
EMS Event Messages
The Event Management Service (EMS) is a collection of processes, tools, and
interfaces that collect and distribute event messages. An event is a significant
occurrence in a subsystem environment, such as an error encountered during
subsystem operation or a condition that might lead to a problem if not corrected. Event-
message collectors accept event messages and write them to log files. The two
primary EMS collectors are $0, which contains operator, system, and customer events,
and $ZLOG, which contains service-related events, such as hardware events.
Viewing Event Logs
On D-series systems, you view event logs using the Syshealth toolkit, ViewPoint, or
the EMSDIST, EMSACOLL, and EMSCCTRL parts of the EMS subsystem.
On G-series systems, you can still use EMSDIST, EMSACOLL, and EMSCCTRL to
configure, control, and view event messages. However, the Syshealth toolkit and
ViewPoint are replaced by either the OSM or TSM event viewers.
For more information about the OSM or TSM event viewers, see the online help within
each application.
Viewing Logs on a System Running a Different RVU
The DSM Template Services product allows you to view D-series event logs from a G-
series server. It also allows you to view G-series logs from a D-series system.
Event Message Changes
The G-series RVU of the Expand subsystem includes changes to EMS event
messages. If you have filters, rules, or programs that act on information contained in
event messages generated by the Expand subsystem, you might need to update your
applications to correctly interpret G-series messages.
For more information about event messages, refer to the Operator Messages Manual.
