ATMSAP connection
ATMSAP connection. A virtual circuit that is permanently established through the SLSA
subsystem. ATMSAPs are the same type of connection as PVCs; they save bandwidth
associated with circuit establishment and tear down in situations where certain virtual
circuits must exist all the time. See also permanent virtual circuit (PVC) and switched
virtual circuit (SVC).
attribute. Parameters associated with an SCF object.
Availability Statistics and Performance (ASAP). The Availability Statistics and
Performance (ASAP) monitoring tool provides graphical and tabular displays of system
and network object performance, object state, and entity threshold information. The
Availability Statistics and Performance Extension (ASAPX) product integrates and
extends ASAP monitoring capabilities to single and multi-node application
environments.
best-path route. The route with the fastest transit time. The best-path route is the route with
the lowest time factor (TF) and lowest hop count (HC). If two or more routes have the
same TF and HC, the first path up after the system is started is the best-path route.
See also best-path routing, time factor (TF), and hop count (HC).
best-path routing. A routing scheme used by the Expand subsystem to ensure that data
travels between two nodes using the fastest possible route. See also best-path route.
bind request. A type of request issued by Expand-over-NAM, Expand-over-ServerNet, and
Expand-over-FOX line-handler processes to access a subdevice on a network access
method (NAM) process. A bind request is roughly equivalent to an OPEN procedure.
buffer pool. Memory that is issued by the Expand line-handler process to buffer incoming
and outgoing messages as they are sent and received from the line buffer. See also
line buffer.
cable neighbors. See FOX cable neighbors.
CAP. See communications access process (CAP)
.
CLIP. See communications line interface processor (CLIP)
.
cluster. A term used to describe a system in a FOX ring. Each cluster has a separate
cluster number.
command file. An EDIT file that contains a series of commands and serves as a source of
command input.
communications access process (CAP). An input-output process (IOP), executing in the
host processor, that is designed to interface between the application (user) program
and the line task executing in the communications line interface processor (CLIP). The
CAP handles the OSI Layer 2 protocols. See also communications line interface
processor (CLIP).
