E4SA
E4SA. See Ethernet 4 ServerNet Adapter (E4SA).
effective time factor (ETF). An extension of the path time factor (TF) that is used to select
a path in a multi-CPU path. The ETF represents not only the speed of the path, but
also the resources available on the path to accommodate more traffic. The ETF
indicates the inverse proportion of traffic that should be sent over the path compared to
an unloaded path with a TF of 1. Therefore, a path with a TF of 6 reports an ETF of 12
when it is half loaded. See also multipacket frame.
EMS. See Event Management Service (EMS).
End-to-End protocol. An HP proprietary protocol implemented by the Expand line-handler
process that provides functions similar to some of those defined by the OSI Session
Layer, Transport Layer, and Network Layer.
ETF. See effective time factor (ETF).
Ethernet. A local area network (LAN) that uses the carrier sense multiple access with
collision detection (CSMA/CD) access method on a bus topology and is the basis for
the IEEE 802.3 standard.
Ethernet 4 ServerNet Adapter (E4SA). A ServerNet adapter for Ethernet local area
networks (LANs) that contains four Ethernet ports.
Event Management Service (EMS). A part of DSM used to provide event collection, event
logging, and event distribution facilities. It provides for different event descriptions for
interactive and programmatic interfaces, lets an operator or application select specific
event-message data, and allows for flexible distribution of event messages within a
system or network. EMS has a Subsystem Programmatic Interface (SPI)-based
programmatic interface for both reporting and retrieving events.
event message. Text intended for a system operator that describes a change in some
condition in the system or network, whether minor or serious. The change of condition
is called an event. Events can be operational errors, notifications of limits exceeded,
requests for actions needed, and so on. See also operator message.
Expand bypass. The HP NonStop™ message system bypasses the Expand subsystem
when sending certain messages between neighbor systems on the same FOX ring.
These messages are handled directly by the ServerNet X- and Y-fabrics and the
ServerNet/FX adapters.
Expand frame. A unit of data, consisting of control information and user data, that is
transmitted by an Expand line-handler process. An Expand line-handler process
fragments application messages into Expand frames. The size of an Expand frame is
determined by the FRAMESIZE modifier. The frame size must be the same for every
Expand line-handler process in the network.
