FOX ring
FOX ring. A FOX-connected network. A FOX ring consists of two separate bidirectional
fiber-optic rings and can connect as many as 14 servers in a limited geographical area.
See also Fiber Optic eXtension (FOX).
frame. See Expand frame.
generic process. A process created and managed by the Subsystem Control Facility (SCF)
interface to the Kernel subsystem for the purpose of performing an operation. Also
known as a system-managed process. A common characteristic of a generic process
is persistence. See also persistence.
G4SA. See Gigabit Ethernet 4-port ServerNet adapter (G4SA).
GESA. See Gigabit Ethernet ServerNet adapter (GESA).
Gigabit Ethernet 4-port ServerNet adapter (G4SA). A multiport ServerNet adapter that
provides 1000 megabits/second (Mbps) data transfer rates between HP NonStop™
S-series systems and Ethernet LANs. The G4SA is the only LAN adapter supported for
the I/O adapter module (IOAM) enclosure, and it is installed in slots 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 of
an IOAM. Although the G4SA supersedes the Ethernet 4 ServerNet adapter (E4SA),
Fast Ethernet ServerNet adapter (FESA), and the Gigabit Ethernet ServerNet adapter
(GESA), it cannot be installed in an HP NonStop™ S-series enclosure.
Gigabit Ethernet ServerNet adapter (GESA). The GESA supports one Ethernet
connection and communicates with multiple processors through its dual ServerNet
interfaces to the ServerNet fabrics. The adapter exists in copper and fiber versions.
The copper version allows switchable or negotiated speeds; the fiber operates only at
1000 megabits/second (Mbps).
global variables space. A portion of the Expand line-handler process data space that
contains Expand software global variables. The Expand subsystem determines how
much global variables space to allocate according to the number of lines in a path
controlled by the Expand line-handler process.
group. The set of all objects accessible by a pair of service processors (SPs) located in the
processor multifunction (PMF) customer-replaceable unit (CRU). There is one group in
a system enclosure.
Guardian. The original application program interface (API) to the NonStop Kernel operating
system.
HC. See hop count (HC).
HDLC Extended Mode protocol. See High-Level Data Link Control (HDLC) Extended
Mode protocol.
HDLC Normal protocol. See High-Level Data Link Control (HDLC) Normal protocol.
