system area network (SAN)
system area network (SAN). A high-speed network, within a system, that connects
processors to each other and to peripheral controllers. A SAN has the performance of
a massively parallel interconnect, but has distribution capabilities similar to a local area
network (LAN). NonStop S-series servers support the ServerNet system area network
(ServerNet SAN).
worldwide name (WWN). A unique, 64-bit number assigned to hardware ports.
WWN. See worldwide name (WWN).
WWN zoning. A methodology for establishing desired relationships between multiple Fibre
Channel ports that are connected through a common Fibre Channel switch. This
particular type of zoning method bases the relationships on the WWNs of the ports.
