Replacing an FCSA

Prepare to Replace an FCSA
The new adapter will have new WWNs. If the FCSA ports are directly connected to the
ESS fiber channel-ports, the WWNs still may need to be updated in the ESS. Normally,
the ESS subsystem recognizes the new FCSA WWNs, but if certain security
parameters are set within the ESS, the ESS subsystem does not use the new WWNs
automatically. If the ESS subsystem does not recognize the FCSA WWNs, when you
restart the DISK object, the NonStop server returns Error 66. If you receive Error 66
after starting the paths for an FCSA connected directly to the ESS fibre-channel ports,
or if the FCSA ports are connected to the FC switch instead of directly to the ESS fiber-
channel ports, you must have the ESS or FC switch administrators enter the new
FCSA WWNs in the WWN zones in the SAN and in the appropriate host-group WWN
configurationsin the ESS. Entering the new WWNs enables the SAN to recognize the
new FCSA. When the new WNNs are entered, restart the DISK object.
There are two SACs on the FCSA If neither of these SACs are working, the storage
subsystem automatically switches any DISK objects using them to backup paths. Thus,
you need only replace the hardware and restart the original paths.
However, one SAC might fail while the other is still working. DISK objects might be
using paths that include that other SAC. When you replace an FCSA because only
one of its SACs is not working, ensure that any DISK objects using the working SAC
have a working backup path before you move the adapter. You also need to use the
SCF SWITCH ADAPTER command to move the DISK objects to the working path
before removing the FCSA.
Prepare to Replace an FCSA
Preparation Checklist
Note. There can be 256 DISK objects configured on an FCSA SAC. The SWITCH ADAPTER
command can move all of them and can stop all of them but you need to restart each of them
individually. Use the forms in Appendix A, FCSA Configuration Forms for ESS Connections to
help you keep track of the disks.
