3 Replacing an FCSA
This section describes how to replace a Fibre Channel ServerNet adapter (FCSA) in 
an IOAM enclosure.
You might need to replace an FCSA if it has failed or partially failed. If POST fails and 
an OSM alarm is generated on the FCSA SAC, you must replace the FCSA. 
If you are moving the FCSA to a different slot, see Section 4, Relocating an FCSA.
Overview of FCSA Replacement Procedures
In the OSM Service Connection, there is a Replace action for FCSAs that performs 
many of the SCF replacement tasks in the background. HP recommends that you use 
the OSM Replace action and its associated help to replace the FCSA. If you decide to 
use the OSM Replace action for all SCF tasks, you can omit Step 5 and Step 6 
described in Prepare to Replace an FCSA. 
Note that using the OSM Replace action alone has these effects:
•
Alarms are generated when you pull the adapter.
•
The I/O driver tries to recover when the paths are lost.
To prevent these effects, you can use SCF to switch paths and stop devices manually, 
even though OSM can perform these tasks for you. If you choose to use SCF for 
switching and stopping, follow the directions in Switch the Paths to Another FCSA and 
Stop the Devices That are Using the Adapter on page 3-6 in Prepare to Replace an 
FCSA.
When you replace an FCSA with a new adapter in the same slot without changing 
anything on the path to the ESS, you stop the DISK objects and install the new 
adapter.
