Fibre Channel ServerNet Adapter Installation and Support Guide (G06.28+, H06.06+, J06.03+)
FCSA System Connections
An FCSA has three primary system connections:
• Data transfer interface (ServerNet) (connects to the ServerNet X and Y fabrics)
• Maintenance entity (ME) interface
• Power interface
These connections are on the back of the FCSA and attach to the midplane.
Data Transfer Interface (ServerNet)
The data transfer interface consists of ports to the ServerNet X and Y fabrics. The ports connect
to the ServerNet addressable controller (SAC) on the adapter. If one ServerNet fabric fails, the
FCSA can still be accessed by using the remaining fabric.
Maintenance Entity (ME) Interface
The Maintenance Entity (ME) interface contains the circuitry required to meet the maintenance
system requirements of an active-logic adapter, which includes:
• Redundant access to the maintenance-system features of the adapter, which allow you to:
— Power the adapter on or off
— Identify the type, configuration, and revision of the adapter
• A serial EEPROM (SEEROM) that provides:
— Hardware identification (part number and revision)
— Manufacturing tracking (serial) number
— Hardware-error data
Power Interface
The FCSA receives power through a shielded, high-density, metric connector module. The
connector module provides attachments to the two ServerNet fabrics.
Firmware
Flash Boot Firmware
The flash boot firmware contains version information about the boot firmware located in the
FCSA FLASH memory. The boot firmware runs on every FCSA after power on and after hardware
or firmware errors, and is re-downloaded to initialize the adapter and to accept downloaded
firmware from the processor.
Flash Firmware
The flash firmware contains version information about the operational firmware located in the
FCSA FLASH memory. Flash firmware runs the FCSAs used for system load so the processor
boot milicode can read the system-load disk.
The flash firmware is not used on NonStop S-series servers.
RAM Firmware
For disks that are not used for system load, operational firmware is downloaded to the FCSA
when you issue the first START DISK command to the first disk drive in the Fibre Channel loop.
Manufacturing Naming Conventions
The naming convention for processes and devices relates logical names to the physical location
of devices.
