2 Installing an FCSA
This section describes how to install a Fibre Channel ServerNet adapter (FCSA) in an I/O adapter
module (IOAM) enclosure.

ESS Connection
Installing the FCSA for a connection with an ESS requires coordination with the ESS and FC
switch administrators. They must supply you with this information:
• The ESS WWNs
• The LUNs available on each of the ESS WWNs
• A description of how the LUNS are paired
For example, suppose there are four ESS ports, each of which are designated by a unique
WWN, but all of which have the same LUN. Suppose also that the LUNs reference the same
LDEV on two ports. You need to know which WWNs with the same LUN reference the
same LDEV.
The preceding information allows you to configure the storage subsystem path by using the SCF
ADD DISK command. The ESS WWNs and the LUN numbers are attributes that you must
configure in the ADD DISK command. In turn, you must supply the ESS and FC switch
administrators with the WWNs of the FCSA ports so they can configure the switch and the ESS
to make the FCSA ports visible to the appropriate ESS ports. (If you are using direct connect,
the FCSA WWNs might not need to be updated, but fill them in on your FCSA Configuration
Form anyway.)
To obtain the WWNs of the FCSA, you must download the firmware. To download the firmware:
1. Use SCF to add the DISK object.
2. Then start the DISK object. (The DISK object does not have to come up.)
3. After the firmware has been downloaded, determine the FCSA WWNs:
a. Issue the STATUS ADAPTER, DETAIL or STATUS ADAPTER, SACS command.
b. Examine the Port Name and Node Name fields in the resulting display. The contents
of these fields contains the WWNs.
c. You can provide the WWNs to the ESS and fibre channel switch administrators.
You can install an FCSA without shutting down the system.
